Fond old memories of my Military Police Officer Basic Class faded through my senility. I was the only one in my entire class who qualified with the M1911 on the first firing order. For the next couple of days, I sat in the bleachers reading and completing class assignments while the rest of the class struggled to harness the “impossible 1911”. While we were supposed to be learning how to field strip and reassemble the M1911, the instructor was trying to figure out how I had completed the tear down while everyone else was still screwing around trying to figure out which way to turn the barrel bushing. Of course, I had merely lined up the slide stop, pushed it through, and caught all the parts in my hand. Unfortunately, the instructor was too insecure to ask me to show him how, so I just sat there for the rest of the class, polishing the feed ramp with a pencil eraser. I thanked t

While working my way through college, I bought my first handgun, a single action 22 / 22mag convertible Colt Frontier Scout at the Long Point (Houston) Kmart for $67.xx. In between Army tours, I worked my way through law school as a Harris County (Houston) Deputy Sheriff. In those days, we were allowed to carry almost any handgun that we could qualify with. I did. I worked a lot of extra jobs to buy one of every handgun that came to Houston. I ended up back on active duty commissioned as a Military Police First Lieutenant and worked my way up to Major. Along the way, I was the OIC (Officer in Charge) of the 4th Division pistol team, and a dyed in the wool 1911 worshipper. At Ft Benning in Sept. 1990, while en route to the Gulf, they issued me an M9. I objected and demanded a 1911. “But Sir, we don’t have one; and we don’t have any 45acp ammo, and there is none available

I put more than 500 rounds through my M92 while I was in the Air Force... never had one problem with the weapon. I wasn't the first person to use it and I wont be the last... I prefer Glock but Beretta is just as reliable.

There is something wrong with this gun. Either that, or the Remington UMC 9mm just can't coexist with it. 1st time I ever shot the gun, it jams. And it jammed on every shot thereafter with the UMC rounds. Not the best way to make a 1st impression. I later switched to the Russian Wolfy rounds and did not see the same problem. Accuracy is great due to it's single action. One knock I have about it is the open slide. Was severely injured once when finger slipped into slide and lost grip.
